Description

A LIMITED EDITION - JUNE 2018
One of the earliest examples of what is now known as the Tarot de Marseille, the Jean Dodal version has many of the unique characteristics of the earliest Tarot decks. Sometimes referred to as Marseille Type 1, these decks include a set of features such as a blindfolded Cupid on the Lovers and a full-faced Moon instead of profile. This restoration of the Jean Dodal Tarot de Marseille of 1701 was handcrafted and self-published by Pablo Robledo of Argentina, in a very small hand-numbered edition.

His illustrative restorations are based upon one of the surviving copies of the deck, preserved in the Biblioteque Nationale in Paris. Robledo has faithfully reproduced the rustic charm of the illustrations by leaving intact the asymmetrical facial features and variant text spelling of characters. Trump & Court cards have traditional French titles, with all of the U's shown as V's, and the J's as I's. Some cards have variant titles such as "La Pances" instead of La Papess.
1 title card (in Spanish) with the deck number and date published (7th June, 2018) and 1 logo card are included.
Card stock has a silky matte finish on both sides, and features a reversible, borderless card back showing a black diagonal tile
pattern. Packaged in a heavy paper wrap, similar to one that might have been used during the time when the original Marseille decks were made.
The scans and photos are from a deck opened for that purpose, so the copy number will vary.
