The creators of the Golden Tarot of the Renaissance Tarot (Giordano Berti with art by Jo Dworkin) have crafted these 78 fully-illustrated cards in beautiful watercolors and gold foil, faithfully replicating the artistic style of Renaissance frescoes, manuscripts and portraits of the 15th century. Published by Lo Scarabeo in 2004, this deck is a great addition to any historical tarot collection, or for lovers of Italianate art of the late Medieval to early Renaissance period.
Some imagery is derived from an incomplete deck of 17 hand-painted 15th century tarot cards, variously known as the Gringonneur Tarot, Estensi Tarot, and Charles VI Tarot. Allegorical stories are shown throughout the deck, and there are some very interesting archetypal deviations in both the Major & Minor card scenes. Some have occasional similarities to Rider-Waite imagery, while others are entirely unique. Nearly all cards have luxurious gold foil on background areas. Each suit (and the Majors) have a slightly different illustrative floral borders. Occasionally, the main illustrations overlap these borders, creating a subtle 3-D effect.
Vertical titles in 5 languages (Italian, English, German, Spanish and French). Card finish is semi-gloss, with the gold foil areas being very highly reflective. 1 title card & 1 advertising card are included.
The 63 page multi-lingual (Italian, English, German, Spanish and French) instruction booklet includes historical notes and a short series of upright & reversed keyword meanings for all cards. 15 card Zodiac spread.
NOTE: You will be receiving a new, sealed deck. The photos and scans are of an identical deck that was opened for that purpose.
