This restoration deck by Meneghello of Italy is a historical Marseilles variant, published in limited editions (1988 and 1996). This deck is from the 2nd edition. As with most restoration decks, the line work has been cleaned up from the woodblock originals and the colors have been likewise "rectified." The simplified line gives it a playful look, while what at first appears to be an anachronistic overly-bright color palette actually hearkens back to the late 19th century Schaffhouse decks.
Design of the cards appear to be loosely based on the Swiss Tarot de Marseille by Jean Proché, with several modifications regarding lines and colors, and so also shares features with the Tarot Classic by U.S. Games which is also derived from the Proche-Gassmann-Schaffhouse lineage, such as the Hanged Man in 19th century costume and head in profile.
Cards have brightly colored characters and symbols, in a color palette of red, pink, yellow, blue, green and beige, with some screened colors overlapping to create additional colors. The Trumps & Court cards have French card titles. The Minor Arcana pip cards 2-10 of each suit have mixed numbering, with Epee & Baton having Roman numbers, while Coupe & Denier have Arabic numbers. High gloss or laminate finish, with reversible card backs.
Divinatory information is the standard 2-sided sheet (in Italian) included with most Meneghello decks. It gives what appears to be 6 layout methods and brief meanings for the Trump cards.
